VP Vance Speaks at Metal Stamping Facility in Howell Township, Michigan
Vice President JD Vance made a visit to Michigan on Wednesday, delivering remarks at Hatch Stamping in Howell Township, a metal stamping facility located near I-96 in Livingston County.
Vance spoke about the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, and recognized several individuals in the crowd associated with Turning Point USA, the conservative organization Kirk co-founded. Vance described Turning Point USA as “the fountain of a movement all across the United States of America”. He credited Kirk with creating a movement that led to his 2024 election victory, saying “I would not be here without Charlie.” Vance stated “We do not attack or commit violence against people because we disagree with their ideas, we debate ideas, and we’re gonna keep on debating ‘em in honor of the great Charlie Kirk, for as long as I have a microphone.”
Vance spoke about the tax and spending bill passed and signed into law in July, and advocated for domestic manufacturing in the state.
During his remarks, Vance celebrated the recent deployment of National Guard troops in D.C. and the adminstration’s recently-announced intention to deploy troops to Memphis, Tennessee. In a message directed at Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Vance stated “we are happy to send the National Guard to Detroit, Michigan, all you gotta do is ask”, drawing applause from the crowd gathered for the speech.
Other speakers at Wednesday’s event included Congressman Tom Barrett, Senate candidate Mike Rogers, Michigan Republican Party Chair Jim Runestad, Michigan state Rep. Jason Woolford, and U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer.
The visit marked Vance’s second to the state since taking office, following a prior stop in March at a plastic manufacturer in Bay County.
