New Sign for Gordie Howe International Bridge Installed in Detroit
A new sign for the Gordie Howe International Bridge was installed this morning on I-75 in Detroit, another harbinger of the nearing opening of the new crossing over the Detroit River into Canada.
Workers installed the sign over the roadway near Springwells Street, with traffic shut down on northbound I-75 throughout the morning to accommodate the endeavor.
The installation follows another recent sign addition on southbound I-75 indicating the future exit for the bridge on that side of the freeway.
The multi-billion dollar crossing, which has been under construction since 2018, is expected to open sometime this fall. It is set to feature the longest main span of any cable-stayed bridge in North America, and will help ease traffic at the nearby Ambassador Bridge, which is currently the busiest border crossing by trade volume between the United States and Canada.
