Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed Campaigns in Wyandotte, Michigan

U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed campaigned Wednesday evening at Bishop Park in Wyandotte, Michigan, speaking at a town hall hosted by Downriver United 734.

El-Sayed is seeking the Democratic Party nomination ahead of the 2026 U.S. Senate election in Michigan.

The Senate seat is currently occupied by Senator Gary Peters, who announced in January that he would not seek reelection to a third term. His term is set to end on January 3rd, 2027.

El-Sayed is endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders, Representative Ro Khanna, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, and Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud.

Other contenders for the Democratic nomination include Michigan state Senator Mallory McMorrow, U.S. House Representative Haley Stevens, and Michigan state Representative Joe Tate.

The Democratic primary will be held next year ahead of the November 3rd, 2026 Senate election.
