Teargas Deployed, Fireworks Launched at Portland ICE Facility

Teargas was in the air outside an ICE facility in Portland last night, as anti-ICE protesters were pushed back by police in the South Portland neighborhood.

Anti-ICE demonstrators had gathered outside the facility Wednesday evening, in one of several recent demonstrations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take place in the area.

A firework was launched towards police around 10:30pm, and numerous announcements were made stating “This is the Federal Protective Service. The facility is closed and not open to the public. Stay out of the area of the driveway to allow for vehicular traffic. Remain on the sidewalk or across the street. Anyone, to include the press, trespassing on federal property is subject to arrest” prior to the use of teargas.

Multiple arrests were made, and some of the crowd dispersed following the teargas deployment. Portland Police later made an announcement stating “We have observed criminal activity and will be making targeted arrests. Do not interfere with police actions. Failure to adhere to this order may subject you to citation or arrest” and took an individual into custody.
