Anti-ICE Protest Held in Southfield, Michigan

Protesters gathered Wednesday afternoon in Southfield, Michigan, where the General Services Administration has executed a lease for office space that the City of Southfield said will be used "to support administrative and legal functions associated with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)".

The office space is located at Oakland Towne Square, a private commercial property in Southfield, a suburb of Detroit. The space is owned by REDICO (an acronym for Real Estate Development and Investment Company) and is zoned for general office use. The City of Southfield stated "The City has been advised that ICE enforcement officers will not be operating out of this location".

Wednesday's protest featured remarks from multiple elected officials, including Michigan state Senator Jeremy Moss and U.S. House Representative Rashida Tlaib.
